TEHRAN-In a groundbreaking cultural event, the renowned Iranian vocalist Alireza Ghorbani performed the first-ever concert at the ancient site of Persepolis in Shiraz, Fars Province, from June 29 to July 1.

Receiving an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from attendees, the concert which was originally slated for three nights, was extended due to unprecedented demand. It was held on July 2 and 3 and will have another performance on July 4, IRNA reported.

The initial concert sold out within hours, prompting organizers to extend the event for several more nights. Tickets for the additional performances have also seen brisk sales, with many eager to be part of this historic event.

Persepolis is famous for its historical significance as the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire and the location of the tomb of Cyrus the Great. This ancient site, which dates back to the 6th century BC, has long been a symbol of Persian heritage and national pride.

Situated 70 km northeast of the city of Shiraz, Persepolis is one of the key Iranian Cultural heritages. UNESCO declared the ruins of Persepolis a World Heritage Site in 1979.

The choice of Persepolis as the venue for the historic concert added a layer of profound cultural resonance to the event.

Thousands of music lovers and history enthusiasts gathered at Pasargad to witness this unique fusion of Iran's rich musical heritage and its illustrious history. Persepolis, with its majestic ruins, provides a breathtaking backdrop for Ghorbani’s performance.

At the beginning of his performances, Ghorbani, a celebrated figure in Persian traditional and classical music, expressed his honor at performing in such a historically significant location.

“I welcome your presence at the cradle of human civilization and this very valuable place, and we are so happy to be here. Let's remember that this place is the second most ancient and valuable historical work in the UNESCO World Heritage list and is considered one of the most valuable historical buildings in the world,” he said.

“We can continue such programs in different parts of the country at other historical places to show our 7,000-year-old culture and civilization to the world,” he added.

An artist of great caliber, Ghorbani is deeply rooted in the tradition with an insatiable curiosity and open-mindedness towards other cultures. He is attributed with dozens of musical albums, numerous live performances and concerts, and scores of international multicultural projects and festivals in many countries around the world.

According to cultural officials, holding concerts at Persepolis is a landmark event for Iran. It showcases the rich cultural heritage of the country and demonstrates the potential of the historical sites as venues for cultural and artistic events.
